The NEWS is published every Wednesday by Cookson Hills Publishers, Inc. It was first established in 1987 by former Senator Joe Johnson and his wife, Martha. Darla Lowder purchased the newspaper in 1990 and then sold to Darren Girdner in 2003. Jeff Mayo and Jack Mayo, brothers, bought the newspaper in May 2005.
