Echo Rider, 99, was recently honored with a Celebration of Life proclamation from Sequoyah County Commissioners Ray Watts, Jim Rogers and Steve Carter. Rider is a former rodeo queen, a charter member of the 14 Flags Heritage Club and a co-founder of the 14 Flags Heritage Museum in Sallisaw. Rider and her husband, Tom, were instrumental in the start of Blue Ribbon Downs and bringing pari-mutuel horse racing into Sallisaw. “She’s done a lot,” Jim Rogers, chairman of the board of county commissioners said. “She almost single-handedly prevented Clean Line, a transmission line which would have crossed through properties belonging to several land owners in Sequoyah County, from crossing through. She’s a great lady.”
