First Missionary Baptist Church in Vian is sponsoring a 1st Annual Black History Month essay contest for students in grades third through 12th.
The elementary will have two age contest divisions – the first will be open to third graders only and their essay must be between 60 and 80 words, the second is open to grades fourth and fifth and their essay must be 100 to 150 words.
For middle and high school students, the contest is open to grades sixth through 12th and their essay must be between 200 and 300 words.
Each winner from the four divisions will also receive a $25 cash prize.
Mack Jackson, III, Senior Pastor, said the winners will be announced April 7 immediately following the 11:15 a.m. service at the church and the winners will be asked to read their essay.
The deadline date had been extended to Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m.
