I Peter 2:2, As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby.W e said last week that there are certain things we need to know in order to grow spiritually: 1. We need to know that we are a spirit being, we have a soul and that we live in a body (I Thessalonians 5:23). 2. We also need to know that every part of man can be developed to a greater or lesser degree. We all know that the body can be developed, our soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions. It can also be developed, our spirits can also be developed. People spend a lot of money developing their bodies through gym memberships or exercise equipment, etc. Also much money is spent on developing the mental, through college or reading, etc. There is nothing wrong with developing either of those, but what about our spirit man. It’s the most important part of us, as we saw last week. There are three ingre-dients common for development: 1. Attention must be given to the area you want to develop. None of them will grow without attention being giving to them. No attention, no growth. 2. Each area must be fed properly. The food the body needs isn’t the food the spirit needs, or vice versa. 3. Each area must experience its proper exercise. The exercise the spirit needs isn’t the same exercise the body needs, etc. The area you give the most attention to, will be the strongest area. The strong dominate the weak. Ezekiel 16:30, How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord God seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman. A Christian living in sin is a weak Christian; can’t control their temper or their mouth, etc. To grow spiritually we also need to know that we all start at the same place, the same starting line. Our background doesn’t effect where we start out in out spiritual growth. We are all babies or carnal when we start out, everyone starts out as babes when they’re born of the spirit, regardless of our natural age.
