Vian High School wrestlers Gunner Richey and Jordan Morris qualified for this week’s Class 3A state wrestling tournament in Oklahoma City by finishing third and fifth, respectively, at Saturday’s west regional tournament at Perry.
Richey (31-10), a sophomore, won by fall (5:18) in his 126-pound third-place match against Community Christian’s Ean Wells (23-9).
Morris (13-12), a senior, placed fifth and won by fall (3:48) over Pawnee’s Ashton Andrews (9-13) in the 106-pound fifth-place match.
Also competing for the Wolverines in the regional tournament were senior Nick Scoggins (215-pound division) and juniors Lane Jameson (190) and Brandon Lamar (132).
The Wolverines scored 50 points and placed 16th in the tournament, which was won by Blackwell (324.5 points).
