The Vian Board of Trustees, during their April 17 monthly meeting, voted to keep Dennis Fletcher as mayor and Rick Peoples as vice-mayor by unanimous decision. Both will serve a 2-year term each, according to meeting minutes.
The first order of business was administering the oath of office to trustees Emanuel Drew, E.O. Smith and Peo- ples who were all reelected to their positions following a recent election. Fletcher administered the oaths.
The board approved a request/reservation from Anthony England with the Vian United Methodist Church for use of the Anna Belle Farmer Park and gazebo on Saturday, May 20, for an outreach program, which will include singing and hotdogs. The annual rib sale at the park and gazebo was also given approval to the Vian cheerleaders, which will be held on May 25, 26 and 27.
Regarding police matters, the trustees voted to terminate officer Casey Fairchild, accepted the resignation/ retirement of John Buszek from the department, and an offer of employment was extended to Shawn Booth.
Regarding last month’s discussion on excessive speeds by law enforcement officers in town limits, it was reported Sheriff Larry Lane Jr. responded concerning the issue and it was addressed by his department.
All regular monthly reports, including police, fire, streets and sanitation, were also approved by the trustees.
