Ephesians 4:24 Amplified version states it like this “And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) c re ated in Gods image, (Godlike) in true righteous ness and holiness.” Then 2Peter 1:4 corelates with Paul telling us “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
It’s one thing to receive this new nature of God, this new birth, God’s DNA or in scientific terms our genotype. It’s another thing to allow it to be seen in your life as you grow and develop spiritually. Our genotype is our genetic code, or the internal blueprint in our cells that produce an outward manifestation that is called Phenotype, we inherited this from our parents. Phenotype is what can be seen externally, hair color, height, body frame. What is seen is a result of our DNA. But we have been born again spiritually. Now we have Gods DNA.
Some born again believers are spiritually barren, not expressing much of Gods nature outwardly. But God’s desire is that we would reflect His glory (spiritual DNA) and become more and more like Him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 explains it like this, “but we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
God’s grace is involved in both processes. It’s thru the Grace of God that we were born again. And it’s thru the Grace of God that we are empowered to express His nature, (His love, mercy, compassion) thru our lives.
