Are You a Chochie?
By Pastor Michael Martin Vian Baptist Church,

1Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” Paul often talks about spreading and standing firm on the Gospel as being at war. 1Timothy 1:18-19 “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:” Our country has often been involved in warfare. Some of those wars were looked upon as righteous wars where we stood on underlying principles as in “all men are created equal”. Other wars were so that many other people would remain free to guide their own destiny instead of living under Communism or Socialism. Whatever the reason for the war there has always been those who do not want to be involved. We call these men and women conscientious objectors.

In World War I in the United Kingdom they coined the word “Conchie” to describe these men and women. Conchie was an (often derisive) abbreviation for conscientious objector popular in the UK during World War I. It was later used in reference to men who refused to serve in World War II, too.

In the war between good and evil there are those who still want to be a conchie. They want the benefits of being a Christian (ie: salvation, heavenly home, etc.) yet without actually being in the fight.

Paul spoke of spiritual armor for the Christian, yet there are many that have not picked up one piece of it to help protect themselves or their family. They are Christian Conchies.

Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Romans 13:12-14 “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

If we read Romans 13 carefully, we will see that Paul refers the night as the the “Works of Darkness”.

Security Magazine reports, Larceny/ theft, drug violations, simple assaults, and property crimes were slightly more likely to happen while the sun was out, but more violent crimes such as driving while impaired, murder, rape/sexual assault, and robbery were more frequently reported at night.

We refer to most of these as “crimes of passion” but the Bible refers to them as Lust of the Flesh. Let me allow the Bible to show you how lust works.

James 1:14-15 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

So it appears to be man’s own fault when he finds himself in a bad position. As Christians our weapons of war are not carnal.

2Corinthians 10:4-5 “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” This simply means that we do not use planes, tanks and guns to fight the battle with enemies of God. We use the Sword of the Spirit given to us along with out spiritual armour of Ephesians 6.

Yet, there are many Christians that would rather “go along to get along” and do not use not even one of the pieces of armour that God has for us. We sit quietly and let others fight the battles for us. Our Christian rights to Worship God is under attack. The Truths of the Word of God are under attack, yet at most we will shake our heads and talk about how awful the world is becoming without doing one thing about it personally.

Today, the most ridiculous arguments are taking place. Can a man have a baby? The obvious answer is no, but many confused people say

maybe. If the physical woman thinks she is a man, then a man can have a baby. I am torn between laughing at such thinking and becoming very angry at their obvious stupidity. All this has happened in the last 50 years and here is why.

Revelation 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

“He knoweth that he hath but a short time” allows us to see why our world is changing so quickly and becoming so much more anti-God. His time is short and he must corrupt as many as possible in his remaining time.

Conchies are everywhere even in the world outside of Christianity. People go along with the crowd because it is hard to resist and much easier to just concede to their demands. That isn’t working that well. Everywhere I am able to talk with people, they rememebr a better time in America and long for those days, yet they did not stand against the wickness when they had a chance.

Are we a Nation of Conchies about the wickness of today?

1Timothy 2:8 “I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.” Prayer Changes Things! Pray for the Word of God to continue its great work and pary against the wickness of this world that wants to extinguish the light.
