Jeremiah 2:12-13 “Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” Jeremiah was written around 300BC. That is a long time from 2023, but what was written has continued to apply today. The two comdemnations are still true of the entire world. First, we forsook God for pleasure. I say pleasure for the laws of God forbid many things that man wanted to do. To be able to do them without feeling guilty, man had to eliminate the law. To eliminate the law, man had to eliminate God.
Man has gone to great lengths to eliminate God in our society, especially in recent years. They lift up the perverted and condemn the Biblical. You see, they must, for the Law of God condemns the perverted life they want to live.
Romans 1:23-27 “And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”
As we see from this passage, they abandoned the Truth of God, then God allowed them to pervert themselves. The words “gave them up” is translated from two Greek words meaning “allowing them choose their own path” and they chose perversion.
The second thing they did that God condemned was “to hew out cisterns.” Man has for hundreds of years tried to make up their own truth and worship their own religion. Religion is simply a man made system of worship. Man has added so many things to the small truth that they retain that Jesus had trouble seeing the truth of God in any of it.
Matthew 15:12-14 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Even with today’s man made religions, man has found it necessary to dig other cisterns. Evolution is one of their attempts to eliminate God. It is a cistern that will not hold water. There are too many cracks in their argument. A simple analysis of the order of the planets or the complexity of the human body should be enough to cast doubt on their theory, yet it is being taught in out schools like it is the absolute truth of how the earth began. Why, oh, why does man need to question the fact that God exists? I believe the devil gets too much credit for the evil in the world. Man’s heart deviseth wicked imaginations. It is one of the things that God hates.
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Yet man ignores the Law of God in favor of this own laws. He throws God’s Truth aside in favor of his own truth. He governs by this own desires instead of governing by righteousness. He has forsaken God and built his own system of what he thinks is right.
Sadly, these men are dragging our once prosperous nation into the abyss with them. Our Christian heritage is being thrown down in favor of the perverted. Imagine a religion that denies God’s Law in favor of what they want to believe. Today, too many are turning from the truth of God until lies constructed by man’s heart. I will close this with what Joshua said to a backslidden Israel.
Joshua 24:14-16 “Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;” They came back to God! Our nation needs to do the same thing!
