School selects sale date for building bonds, hires two

The Vian Board of Education held a special meeting on May 24 where they voted to employ two, accepted an immediate resignation, and set a date and time for the sale of the school’s building bonds.

The board unanimously approved a resolution determining the maturities of and setting a date, time and place for the sale of the $710,000 building bonds of the school district, and designating bond counsel for this issuance of bonds. The sale date was set for June 12, according to meeting minutes.

The board also unanimously voted to hire Leslie Bridges as Curriculum Director and Betty Baker as a middle school Science teacher; and accepted the resignation of Kaitlin Killgore, effective immediately.

After a discussion to take possible action to approve a resolution for the school district to join Schools Insurance Group, the board voted to table the line item.

The school board members voted to convene into executive session at 12:26 p.m. and upon reconvening at 1:49 p.m., Board President Ken Pack gave a statement of executive session minutes.

The board reportedly reviewed applications for superintendent, coaching assignments for the 2023-24 school year.

The board also approved encumbrances

#610-617 and changes for a net increase of

$17,244.93 within the

2022-23 General Funds; no changes within the

2022-23 Building Fund; approved encumbrance

#5 and changes for a net increase of $493,920 within the 2022-23 Sinking Fund; and approved encumbrance #2 and changes for a net increase of $2,500 within the 2022-23 Building Bond Fund.
