Evidence

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Evidence is an interesting word. Evidence at a crime scene can be physical evidence or it can be an eye witness to the crime. Both are acceptable in a court of law. Hearsay is not acceptable because the story can change drastically from the truth to Baptist what someone believes to be true. Church When we were kids we played a —————– game called Telegraph. With a line of kids all in a row. Someone would start a story by whispering it into the ear of the first in the line. Each person in the line wold then try to remember it and whisper it to the next person in line. The last person in the line repeated the story aloud as he thought he had heard it told to him. About 99.9% of the time the story was different and 20% of the time it was extremely different.

The point proven is that the eye witness presumably saw what happened. Growing up in Missouri, we foolish teenagers would hang out on the square until the wee hours of the morning. Many times we would sit on the curb and talk with the night watchman. He would keep us entertained with Sheriff Nobel Gowers stories. One that he related is when they were patrolling together and the car in front of them seemed to throw out litter at least that is what the sheriff saw from his side of the car. “Lets get him!” said the sheriff, but immediately the night watchman told him that the car had just caused the trash to move by the wind the car made in passing. His perspective and vantage point allowed him to be the better witness.

Now when we think of the verse in Hebrews it talks about ‘the evidence of things not seen.’ There are many things that we assume to be true but we lack evidence of. In the Christian realm it is called faith when we believe the Earth was created by God. We have sure evidence it was, but since no one was around at the time it was formed to actually see it happen we must look for different proof. If we don’t have an eyewitness, we must look for the physical evidence instead.

One of the evidences of the Evolutionary theory is that there was an incredibly large chunk of matter and it somehow exploded to throw all the planets, stars, meteors and stuff all over the galaxy. Never mind they cannot explain where this huge chunk of matter actually came from. Never mind that stars and planets are almost perfectly round. I always laugh at the big bang theory because it is impossible for anything blow up to come out of the explosion perfectly round. And before some scientist corrects me, yes, I know that from pole to pole the earth is 7900 miles and around the equator it is 7930 miles, but that seems pretty round to me.

Scientists have sorted out 118 different elements that make up our earth. They produced the Periodic Table to arrange them by weight, but in all that they forget to tells us where they came from. Who made them to begin with? We have laws for things we have observed to be repeatable. The Law of Gravity in the simplest form is that all things fall to the ground under its influence. We observe gravity every day, yet no one can tell us why it actually exists. We have Solar tables that tell us years in advance when to expect the sun to rise and set. Yet no one can tell us why it is so regular. We have observed that the moon causes the tides of the oceans to have a very repeatable pattern so that we have Tidal charts that track tides and currents in out oceans. It has been observed that the tides and currents refresh the ocean to that fish might have oxygen to breath and food to eat, yet no one can say how it is so predictable and regular.

Many refuse to believe that there is a God in Heaven. I understand that it is hard to believe in something you can’t see, yet we cannot see the air around us or the wind that blows, but we are alive because of it. The scientists have mapped the wind currents as they swirl around out globe refreshing our air supply day by day. But again, no one will give God the credit He deserves. All of mankind use all the basic services God provides daily but only few are thankful of His greatness.

Think about the physical evidence if you cannot see God in person. The Bible tells us Psalms 19:1-2 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

Do not open your mind to the universe as the Oriental religions would teach you. Instead open your mind to God Almighty the creator and sustainer of life on earth. If He only removed one small element of the physical laws of earth, we would all perish.

You know it might be fun if He removed gravity, at least for a little while. Floating around, getting above the earth, seeing its beauty has an appeal, yet with no gravity we would soon have no oxygen.

You need to believe because of the physical evidence that points to the truth. 2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We give away free Bibles if you need one. Come on by. Our churcn office hours are Tuesday and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. Stop by and talk to one of our girls and ask for a free Bible.
