Gore – A memorial service for Deborah “Debbie” Kay Winburn, 67, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Gore United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Winburn was born on Sept. 9, 1955, in Muskogee to Frank “Boo” and Dorothy Fields Hefley. She died on June 15, 2023.
She was a 1973 graduate of Gore High School and an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Northeastern State University, and completed additional graduate training at the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
She was a beloved teacher, school administrator, leader and advocate for special education students, retiring from Muskogee Public Schools in 2016. One of her greatest joys was serving as a Special Olympics Green Country Area Director and State Games Committee member.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, B.J. and Misty Boyd of Ada; step-daughter, Elizabeth Winburn of Midwest City; step-son, Tom Winburn of Fort Gibson; sister, Donna Owen of Tulsa; three grandchildren; and many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Vernon “Keith” Winburn.
