VIAN — The Vian Wolverines age 12-andyounger baseball team won its own OK Kids Regional Tournament last week to not only claim a regional championship, but a berth in this week’s state tournament at the Sallisaw Sports Complex.
The Wolverines had to go the full distance to claim the title as they defeated the Shawnee PC Naturals 14-4 in the winner- take-all game after losing the first title game to the Naturals 6-4.
The Wolverines reached the title game with a 14-0 shutout over Checotah, then nipped the Naturals 2-1 to reach the title game.
The Wolverines faced the Alva Renegades on Monday afternoon in the OK Kids Age 12-and-Younger State Tournament’s red bracket winner’s-bracket quarterfinals at the Sallisaw Sports Complex.
The state finals will take place at 5 p.m. Friday at the Sallisaw Sports Complex.
