SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Oral Roberts righthand relief pitcher Cade Denton has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performer of the Month for May-June, as announced by League officials on Monday.
Denton appeared in 15 of ORU’s 23 games through May and June that culminated with the program’s second appearance at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. The Rowlett, Texas, native, who was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year on June 16, posted a 2-0 record with five saves and a 2.62 earned-run average while the Golden Eagles went 20-3.
Denton was named the Stillwater Regional Most Outstanding Player after earning a save in all three of ORU’s victories that advanced the Golden Eagles to the Eugene Super Regional.
The righthander earned the first College World Series win in Summit League history by striking out two batters over the final 1.1 innings of relief in a 6-5 victory over Texas Christian University.
Denton registered 36 strikeouts over 24 innings of work through May and June, finishing the campaign sharing the NCAA Division I lead in saves with 15. He was named a first team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association/ Rawlings, by the NCBWA, by Perfect Game and a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
