Hebrew 11 declares to us “That FAITH is the subs tance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Then in verse 6 it goes on to tell us that “without faith it is imp o s sible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Those two statements make Faith a big subject. So, we might ask how we get Faith or how does it come.
Well Romans 10:17 will answer that. “So, then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” If we go back a few chapters He tells us in chapter 1 “that the just shall live by faith.” He say’s the same thing in Galatians 3:11 “The just shall live by faith.” Even the old testament prophet Habakkuk proclaims to us in chapter 2:4 “the just shall live by his faith.” And if that’s not enough for you Hebrews 10:38 agrees with all of them and takes it a step deeper telling us “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
It’s obvious that God demands for us to have faith. And then not only to have it but to live in it and walk by it, to use it! If God demands us to have faith, but doesn’t tell us how to get it, that would be unjust. But if He has told me how to get faith and made it available then it’s my responsibility as to whether I have Faith or not.
“So, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” I’m going to have to put myself in a position to hear the word of God preached. Not only that, but I’m also going to have to open my bible and read it. Then I’m going to have to believe it. My first thought should always be what does God say about this, find it in the bible, read it, speak it, then do (operate) in it. As I operate in what I do have it will develop into more. I ought to always be doing something (living by faith). This will not only develop my faith, but my relationship with God and His word.
