TULSA, — The accolades continue to roll in for Oral Roberts University closer Cade Denton and center fielder Jonah Cox as the duo garnered All-America honors from Baseball America last Wednesday.
Denton garnered first-team honors for the fourth time this year and totaled his fifth All-America nod of 2023. The right-hander, who was tabbed the NCBWA Stopper of the Year, registered a 1.83 earned-run average and a nation-best 15 saves in a program-record 35 appearances. The 15 saves also tied the program’s single-season record.
In 64 innings of work, Denton logged a 2-1 record, struck out 86 batters and held opponents to a .211 batting average. The Summit League Pitcher of the Year totaled 26 scoreless appearances and capped off the year with six strikeouts in four shutout frames against Texas Christian University at the College World Series.
Cox, who led the nation in hits and set a program/ Summit League record with 114, logged his fifth All-America selection of the year after garnering third-team honors. The junior, who registered a hit in 64 of the 66 games this season led the Golden Eagles with a .412 average to go along with 11 homers, 16 doubles, eight triples, 68 runs batted in and 28 stolen bases. Cox also compiled a 47-game hit streak during the season, which ranked as the third longest in NCAA history.
