The Sequoyah County Commissioners last Monday reviewed bridge reports from the Civil Engineering District 2 Bridge Safety Inspection, and approved invoices, which are paid by the Federal Highway Administration.
Additionally, the commissioners approved a youth services contract by and between the board of county commissioners and Pittsburg County Regional Juvenile Detention Center, as well as renewal of a contract between Data Scout LLC and the Sequoyah County Assessor’s Office for a mapping system. Cost of the contract with Data Scout is $5,650.40, and both contracts were reviewed and approved by Andy Williams, assistant district attorney for Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties.
Sequoyah County Undersheriff Charles House announced that the Brushy School Board has approved a second school resource officer (SRO) for the 2023-24 school year.
David Eads, new superintendent for Central Public School, attended the meeting and was introduced.
The ninth annual Back-to-School Roundup is 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 5 at the Sallisaw rodeo grounds. Six hundred backpacks and school supplies will be given away during the event. Food, bounce houses and free pony rides will be available. A drawing for a new bicycle — one for a girl and one for a boy — will be held. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
