A collision that reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon, 10 miles north of Vian, has claimed the life of a Cookson man, according to an accident report issued by Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
The accident took place on Hwy. 82 and E. 953 Rd. and the victim has been identified as Michael Parker, 63.
The OHP’s initial report stated Parker was behind the wheel of a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser headed northbound on Hwy. 82 when, for reasons yet to be determined, veered off the road to the right and collided with a tree.
The impact was severe, with Parker being pinned inside the vehicle. The emergency response was swift, with members of both the Blackgum and Cookson Fire Departments working diligently to extricate him from the wreckage. Unfortunately, the collision proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Pafford EMS.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the condition of Parker prior to the crash and to ascertain the exact cause. While the specific details remain under investigation, the report confirms that Parker was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The accident scene was attended by a team of law enforcement officers, including Trooper Joshua Aden #211 and other members of the Sequoyah County detachment of Troop C, and Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Department.
