GORE SOFTBALL
After going 12-13 last fall, the Gore Lady Pirates will look for a winning season this fall under a new coach.
Michael Randolph takes over the program, which sees six starters return from a year ago.
Four of those six returning starters are seniors — shortstop/ pitcher Cadi Shoemake (.351 batting average last fall), outfielder Kynley Webb (.490), second baseman/outfielder Natalie Casteel (.438) and first baseman Paige Curran (.378).
The other two returning starters are sophomores — outfielder Kennedy Williams (.318 batting average in 2022) and second baseman/ shortstop Emily Daily (.235).
The Lady Pirates will get one player back who missed all of the 2022 season due to an ACL injury — junior second baseman/pitcher Kendra Huckbay.
Two freshmen who likely will see a great deal of playing time will be third baseman/ pitcher River Shoemake and catcher Sophie O’Connor.
Rounding out the roster are Peyton Curran, Alison Briley, Victoria Scott and Cheyenne Davidson.
“We have a lot of experience with several starters coming back,” Randolph said. “We swing the bat well, and we’re very smart with our base running. We lost a really great pitcher last year, but we have had multiple girls step up to try and fill that role. We dropped down to Class A this season, and I expect these girls to go out and compete.”
