Vian softball team loses first two games of season
By Dav id Seeley Sports Editor,

VIAN SOFTBALL

It was a rough start to the 2023 fast-pitch softball season for the Vian Wolverines as they lost their first two games of the fall campaign, losing 11-1 to Eufaula on Aug. 8 in a game moved to Checotah due to field conditions.

Vian dropped its season opener 4-1 on Aug. 7 on the road against Henryetta.

In the loss to Eufaula, the Lady Ironheads scored three runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning for a 10-0 lead before the Lady Wolverines (0-2) scored their lone run on LaKaila Drew’s two-out, RBI single in the third inning.

In defeat, Drew, Maisie Wells, Kala Gibbins and Rayleigh Terrill all singled for Vian. Gibbins (0-2) took the loss.

In the loss to Henryetta, the Lady Black Knights scored single runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wolverines cut their deficit in half in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Gibbins to cut Henryetta’s lead to 2-1, but the Lady Black Knights scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put away the game.

In defeat, Gibbins had an RBI single, while Wells, Terrill, Skylark Locust and Halli Russell each singled for Vian.

Gibbons took the loss as she recorded two strikeouts in six innings.
