Vian Lady Wolverines go 5-0 last week, including blanking Central

The Vian Lady Wolverines enjoyed a perfect 5-0 week last week, which was capped with an 11-0 road win Friday afternoon over the Central Lady Tigers.

Prior to that, the Lady Wolverines had a pair of walk-off wins.

Hanna Mattingly’s walk-off, two-run home run win propelled the Lady Wolverines to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over the Eufaula Lady Ironheads on Thursday.

The Lady Wolverines got their first walk-off win of the week on Aug. 15 to down the visiting Spiro Lady Bulldogs 3-2.

The Lady Wolverines started the week Aug. 14 with a pair of road wins, 15-4 over host Heavener and 10-2 over Cameron.

In the road win over Central, the Lady Wolverines (8-3) broke a scoreless tie with a pair of four-run innings in the second and third innings for an 8-0 lead. A three-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the game, Halli Russell was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and two runs scored, LaKaila Drew doubled and scored twice, Akeelah Truett doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored and Maisie Wells doubled with an RBI for Vian. Kala Gibbins (62) got the win, striking out 10 batters in four innings and throwing a four-hitter.

In defeat, Ayrland Giles was 2-for-2 for the Lady Tigers (0-8). Jiles (0-8) took the loss as she fanned one batter.

In the win over Eufaula, the Lady Wolverines won their fifth straight game in dramatic fashion on Mattingly’s tworun, walk-off homer that capped a three-run seventh inning to propel Vian to the comeback victory.

For the game, Gibbins was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Mattingly was 3-for-4 with a game-winning, walk-off two-run homer, three RBIs and a run scored and Russell was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Vian. Gibbins got the win, striking out four batters in seven innings.

In the victory over Spiro, Gibbins hit a lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Mattingly’s one-out RBI double in the first inning and Gibbins’ two-out RBI single in the second inning put Vian ahead 2-0, only to see Spiro tie the game at 2-all with two runs in the third inning.

For the game, Gibbins was 3-for-4 with the walk-off, game-winning homer and two runs batted in, Drew was 2-for-3 and Mattingly hit an RBI double for the Lady Wolverines (6-3).

Gibbins got the win, striking out three batters in seven innings.

In the win over the host Lady Wolves, the Lady Wolves scored once in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.

After Heavener cut its deficit to 4-2 after two innings, Vian put away the game with a six-run third inning for a 10-2 lead. A five-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Maisie Wells was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, Mattingly was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Russell was 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Gibbins was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored and Skyelar Locust tripled and scored three runs for Vian.

Gibbins got the win, striking out three batters in six innings.

In the victory over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets, the Lady Wolverines had to rally for the come-from-behind win.

Down 2-1 in the second inning, Vian scored three runs in the second inning, twice in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Wells was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, Drew was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Truett was 2-for-3 with a double and Rebel Simon was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for Vian.

Drew (1-0) got her first win of the season in relief as she went the final 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. Mattingly started, went the first 1.2 innings with four Ks.
