Webbers Falls Lady Warriors finish sixth, host Lady Pirates eighth in Gore Tourney
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors finished in sixth place and the host Gore Lady Pirates eighth in last weekend’s Gore Tournament, which had to be moved to Oktaha due to wet fields in Gore.

The Lady Warriors lost Saturday’s fifthplace game 11-1 to Roland after splitting their Friday games — beating Gore 6-3 but falling 9-0 to Stilwell.

The Lady Pirates ended up eighth after losing the seventh-place game 7-3 to Okmulgee. Gore lost both of its games Friday, not only losing to Webbers Falls but falling 15-1 to Sallisaw.

In the fifth-place game, the Lady Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but a Roland error in the second inning allowed Gracie Sturgell to score to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, that was as close as the Lady Warriors got as the Lady Rangers scored three runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and a single run in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

The Roland pitching duo of Emily Daws and KyLeigh Knapp combined to no-hit Webbers Falls. Maddy Raskey (12) took the loss for the Lady Warriors (1-2).

In Webbers Falls’ win over Gore, the Lady Warriors rallied from a 3-2 deficit with a fourrun third inning without the benefit of a runproducing hit.

For the game, Teralynn Colston was 2-for-2, while Raskey and Chloee McGuire each singled for Webbers Falls. Raskey got the win, getting a strikeout in three innings.

In defeat for Gore, Natalie Casteel doubled, Kynley Webb singled with a run batted in and River Shoemake and Kennedy Williams each singled for the Lady Pirates (0-4).

Cheyenne Davidson (0-2) took the loss, despite fanning three batters in 2.1 innings.

In Webbers Falls’ loss to Stilwell, Stilwell starting pitcher Madison Ingram three-hit the Lady Warriors, who only could muster singles from Colston, Raskey and Savannah Frazier. Raskey suffered the loss.

In Gore’s loss to Sallisaw, the Lady Black Diamonds got their first win of the season, thanks to a nine-run first inning and a four-run second inning for a 13-0 lead.

Gore’s lone run scored on a solo home run by Paige Curran in the second inning. All total, the Lady Pirates mustered only four hits — Curran’s homer, doubles by Williams and Kendra Huckbay and a single by Cadi Shoemake.

Cali Shoemake (0-1) took the loss. Huckbay had one strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief pitching, while Cheyenne Davidson had four Ks in 1.2 innings of relief.

In the seventh-place game, the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the third inning and four runs in the second inning for a 7-0 lead.

Gore’s first run scored on a sacrifice fly by Emily Daily in the third inning to cut the Okmulgee lead to 7-1. An RBI double by Curran and an RBI single by Williams in the fourth inning cut Gore’s deficit to 7-3, but the Lady Pirates got no closer.

In defeat, Curran had an RBI double and scored once, River Shoemake doubled, Williams had an RBI single, Casteel singled and scored and Sophie O’Connor and Davidson each singled for Gore.

Davidson took the loss, despite fanning three batters in 2.1 innings. Huckbay went the final two-thirds of the game.
