The Gore Pirates got to begin a new unbeaten streak Friday night at home.
After losing in the 2022 Class A state title game to Fairview, the Pirates opened the 2023 season with a 28-0 shutout of the Wilburton Diggers.
Gore quarterback Tate Brooksher had a hat trick on touchdown runs as he hit paydirt three times with his feet.
Brooksher’s 60-yard scamper put the Pirates (1-0) ahead 6-0 after the opening period.
Hunter McGee scored on a 63-yard run and Tate hit Journey Shells on a two-point conversion pass in the second quarter upped Gores advantage to 14-0 at halftime.
Brooksher scored his final two TDs in the third quarter on runs of 26 and 33 yards. He ran in the two-point conversion after his first score.
Brooksher rushed for 120 yards and scored three touchdowns, while McGee had 100 yards rushing and a TD. All total, Gore amassed 324 yards of offense.
