By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Lady Wolverines went 1-2 in last weekend’s Lincoln Christian Tournament as they lost 7-1 to Bristow and 8-0 to Verdigris on Thursday to see their seven-game winning streak snapped. However, they ended the weekend on a high note with an 8-3 win over the Kansas Lady Comets.

The Lady Wolverines (10-5) got their seventh straight victory, taking a 5-1 home game over Heavener on Aug. 22.

In the win over Heavener, the Lady Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning.

For the game, Maisie Wells was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Hanna Mattingly doubled with a run batted in and a run scored and Kala Gibbins doubled with a run scored for Vian.

Gibbins (8-4) got the win, striking out six batters in seven innings.

In the tournament win over Kansas, the Lady Wolverines rallied from a 3-0 deficit with a four-run first inning, a single run in the third inning and a three-run fourth inning.

For the game, Gibbins was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Mattingly doubled with two RBIs and a run scored and Akeelah Truett homered with three RBIs and a run scored for Vian. Gibbins got the win, getting five strikeouts in six innings.

In the tournament loss to Bristow, the Lady Wolverines scored their lone run in the second inning on a Bristow error, allowing Skyelar Locust to score, to cut the deficit to 2-1, but that was as close as Vian got.

In defeat, Locust was 2-for-3 with a run scored, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-3 with a double and Mattingly doubled. Gibbins took the loss, despite recording two strikeouts in five innings.

In the tournament loss to Verdigris, the Lady Wolverines were four-hit as all Vian could muster were a single apiece by Gibbins, Mattingly, Locust and Akeelah Truett. Gibbins suffered the loss, despite three Ks in 4.1 innings.

Vian’s road game on Aug. 21 at Okmulgee was canceled due to the heat.
