Sequoyah County Commissioner Ray Watts signed a proclamation on Tuesday, declaring September as Suicide Prevention Month with representatives from the Sallisaw NOW Coalition, People Inc. and other county officials attending. According to Lindsie Dyer, Youth and Family Service Counselor and Coordinator for People Inc., from 2017 to 2021, Sequoyah County had the ninth highest drug overdose death rate in the state. Dyer said the 988 direct line for anyone needing counseling is available, or to learn more go to oklahoma.gov/health/overdose or call 405-426-8440.
