Gore Lady Pirates swept by Dewar in Class A District Tournament to see season end
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

After losing regular-season finale to Checotah

Last week was the final week of action on the fast-pitch softball diamond for the Gore Lady Pirates.

After losing their regular-season finale 8-1 to the Checotah Lady Wildcats on Sept. 18 in Gore, the Lady Pirates saw their 2023 season end with a pair of losses to the host Dewar Lady Dragons in the Class A District Tournament on Sept. 19 by scores of 17-1 and 12-2.

The Lady Pirates finish the season at 9-18.

In the district-tournament opener, the Lady Dragons (26-4), who will advance to this week’s Class A Super Regionals with the sweep, put away the game away with a 13run first inning.

The Lady Pirates were no-hit by Dewar’s pitching duo of Brooke and Raygin Thomas. Brooke Thomas got the win, going the first two innings with three strikeouts, while Raygin Thomas went the final inning with a strikeout.

Cheyenne Davidson took the loss as she got a strikeout in two innings.

In the nightcap, the Lady Dragons scored twice in the first inning and five runs in the second inning for a 7-0 lead after two innings.

The first run of the entire day for Gore scored in the top of the third inning on Paige Curran’s RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-1.

After Dewar scored three runs in its half of the inning for a 10-1 lead, Gore scored its final run in the fourth inning on Emily Daily’s sacrifice fly to make it 10-2, but that was as close as the Lady Pirates got.

The Lady Dragons scored twice in their half of the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Kynley Webb was 2-for-2, Curran hit an RBI double, Daily singled, hit an RBI sacrifice fly and scored once and River Shoemake singled for Gore. Davidson took the loss.

In the regular-season finale loss to Checotah, the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning.

The lone run for the Lady Pirates scored in the first inning on Cadi Shoemake’s RBI single that scored Kendra Huckbay, which was Gore’s lone hit.
