Caddo beats Webbers Falls on Senior Night; Warriors travel Thursday night to Quinton
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The hopes of finishing second — or even first — in District B-5 came to a screeching halt Friday night at Smokey Cox Stadium for the Webbers Falls Warriors as they fell 58-52 to the visiting Caddo Bruins to spoil Senior Night.

Trailing 36-24 at halftime, the Bruins (8-1 overall, 4-0 in district play) scored 14 points in the third quarter to take a 38-36 lead into the final period, in which Caddo outscored Webbers Falls 20-12.

In defeat, senior quarterback Maddux Shelby scored four touchdowns, while Zane Nolan and Aiden Turley each scored once.

The Warriors had three touchdowns called back due to penalties and lost a fumble.

“We had it in our grasp,” Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said. “We had three scores called back. We had a fumble which we hadn’t had in about six or seven ball games. We had our chances. If we make a couple of our conversions, and we keep them from scoring a touchdown, we have the game tied.”

The loss dropped the Warriors to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in district play and cost them a home opening-round playoff game. The Warriors, who have clinched a playoff berth, will end the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday at Quinton in a game to decide third place, with the loser dropping to fourth place.

Holt said the Warriors will need to handle Quinton’s quarterback to have a chance to win.

“He can run,and he can throw it,” he said. “They don’t have the quality receivers as Caddo, but he can throw it. We’re going to have to contain him.”

Holt said he would rather face a district runner-up as opposed to a district champion in the opening round of the Class B playoffs.

“I’d rather face a No. 2 or No. 3 seed team than a district champion,” he said.

Thursday night’s Webbers Falls-Quinton winner will be third and likely travel to meet Welch, the likely District B-6 runner-up, while the loser will make a shorter drive to begin the postseason but will have to travel to face District B-6’s champion Keota Lions at Keota’s Alvin Powell Field.
