As temporary location
The old Vian Town Hall downtown will temporarily serve as a location for a new food pantry in Vian until other arrangements can be made, according to Doug White of Vian.
White, along with Laurie Moore, Scott Thompson and Lorinda Connelly, have established Center 64, a food pantry and center that will serve local residents.
“We’ve already moved some things we need inside the building, like deep freezers, that we’ll be able to use to store the food in,” White said. “This will serve as a temporary location until we can find another building to operate out of. We just want to be able to help families in need.”
Since they are just getting started, White said the food pantry doesn’t have set hours at this time.
“It’s unknown right now what hours or days we will be open,” he said. “But we hope to announce that soon.”
The pantry is currently accepting non-perishable food items, working freezers and refrigerators, tables and chairs. and monetary donations. White said monetary donations are tax-deductible because the food pantry has already acquired a non-profit 501c3.
White said they are already planning to conduct a giveaway on Dec. 20 to help with Christmas meals.
