During the Gore Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting on Nov. 14, a range of important decisions were made, reflecting the town’s commitment to community welfare and development.
The meeting, called to order by vice mayor Larry Pack at 6:02 p.m., kicked off with the unanimous approval of various items from October, including the meeting minutes, financial report and purchase orders, along with the 2024 schedules for regular town meetings, municipal court and federal holidays.
Several resolutions were also discussed and approved during the meeting. Notably, Resolution 11-14-2023-1 (OMAG) and Resolution 1114-2023-2 (Opioid Grant) were both approved without opposition.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussions on policy matters. The trustees approved the Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy unanimously, highlighting their commitment to a safe and healthy work environment.
Following this, the trustees convened into an executive session to discuss matters related to the employment, appointment, promotion, discipline, or resignation of individuals, specifically Christen Hinson and Grant Bennett. Upon reconvening, both individuals were approved for hiring.
The board also unanimously approved an SRO contract.
In October, the police department reportedly issued 15 citations and 29 warnings, collecting over $1,800 in citation fees. Notably, the department received a $10,000 grant for police overtime, and the Corporation Commission generously donated a 2015 Dodge Charger to enhance the town’s law enforcement capabilities.
The fire chief ’s report highlighted the fire department’s recent achievements, including approval for the 80/20 Oklahoma Forestry grant, which is expected to further enhance emergency response capabilities. Additionally, the department announced plans to start Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) classes in November, which will wrap up some time in mid-January 2024.
In a heartwarming move, the Town of Gore approved a $100 Harp’s card for each employee for Thanksgiving and generous holiday bonuses of $500 for fulltime employees and $250 for part-time employees.
The meeting concluded with the approval of up to $10,000 for Haven Heights road improvements, showcasing the town’s commitment to infrastructure development.
In the public works authority meeting, the board voted to award a bid contract to Bolding Construction for water system improvements, which will include a 10” water line, based on a recommendation from the town’s engineer firm. A bid was also unanimously awarded to Sandyland Environmental Services, LLC.
During the water administrator’s report, it was noted there was a 16 percent water loss, four leaks for the previous month, two regulators were changed out, and concrete was being poured on the side of Municipal Hall. It was also stated that four workers would have water license renewal training in Sapulpa.
