New Webbers Girls BB coach starts off 2-0; Warriors split first two games of season

A new era of Webbers Falls Lady Warriors basketball got started on a victorious note times two as new coach Garren Weatherton got her first wins with her new team as the Lady Warriors opened their 202324 season Nov. 28 with a 40-26 road win over the Arkoma Lady Mustangs at Neil Brannon Gymnasium, then won Friday night 53-29 at Braggs.

The Warriors then followed suit with a 47-43 overtime win over the Mustangs, but then fell 62-23 on Friday night at Braggs In the girls’ seasonopener, the Lady Warriors (2-0) had a pair of double-digit scorers on the night as Bridgette Baer scored a team-high 16 points and Teralynn Colston added 11 points. Cheyanne Herrier scored seven points, followed by Abby Pense with four points and Audri Spears with two points.

In the girls’ road win Friday night at Braggs, the Lady Warriors put away the game early as they jumped out to a 26-3 lead after a quarter, which became a 38-8 halftime advantage and a 45-20 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Colston scored a game-high 26 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Pense with 11 points, Baer with eight points, Bailey Ward with four points, River Harrison with three points and Jaylene Goodman with a free throw.

In the boys’ season-opener, after the Mustangs outscored the Warriors 9-6 in the fourth quarter to force overtime tied at 41, Webbers Falls outscored Arkoma 6-2 in the extra session to get the road victory.

Stryker Chappell scored a game-high 16 points and Luke Pierce added 14 points to lead the Warriors (1-1), followed by Maddux Shelby with eight points, Cale Dishman with four points, Denver Morgan with three points and Braydan Robinson with two points.

In Friday night’s road loss to Braggs, the Warriors fell behind 9-4 after a period, but then the Wildcats put away the game with a 26-6 second quarter to take a 35-10 led at halftime, which became a 45-21 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Chappell led Webbers Falls with 11 points, followed by Pierce with four points, Shelby with three points and Morgan and Robinson with two points apiece.
