In monthly meeting
The Vian Board of Trustees convened for their regular monthly meeting on Nov. 20, with all trustees in attendance. The meeting addressed various community matters and pivotal decisions were made to shape the future of the town.
The first portion of the meeting was dedicated to addressing concerns raised by residents. Erica Calloway approached the council regarding Colton Shaw and comments made on a Facebook post concerning her brother, Brett Hooper. Calloway advocated for Shaw’s removal from the Vian Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, Sasha Shaw expressed concerns about Shaw’s ability to serve on the fire department. These matters were discussed thoroughly, with no immediate resolution announced.
The board moved on to discuss and vote on the approval of the 2024 schedule of Town of Vian regular meetings. A motion made by Rick Peoples and seconded by Shane Kolbe saw unanimous approval from all trustees, solidifying the meeting dates for the upcoming year.
In another significant decision, the trustees discussed and approved the Lake Vian Hilltop Run scheduled for March 2, 2024. The motion also received unanimous support from the trustees.
The meeting included a discussion on the possibility of installing a big screen at Anna Belle Farmer Park for special events. Town administrator Keith Boshers was tasked with obtaining price quotes, and this matter is expected to be on the agenda for the next meeting.
Several crucial resolutions and contracts were on the agenda, including the approval of Resolution No. 2023-001, authorizing OMAG to distribute escrow account funds. The board also approved the Engineering Service Contract with Neal Harvell and Associates for the Main Street Project.
The employment of Douglas L. Baker was approved and discussions included the approval of the Police Policy on Pursuit. Additionally, reports regarding citations, budget, fire runs, firefighter attendance, water usage, and sanitation, street & parks projects were discussed and accepted.
Following the Town of Vian meeting, the Vian Public Works Authority held its regular meeting. The trustees approved the 2024 schedule of Vian Public Works Authority regular meetings, waived a $50 administrative fee for a specific water account, and approved the treasurer’s report.
