Funeral services for Irene Coleman “Nan” Qualls, 90, of Nicut, were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Belfonte Baptist Church in Muldrow. Burial was at Seabolt Cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mrs. Qualls was born on June 4, 1933, in Tahlequah to Jim Coleman and Eliza (Daugherty) Coleman. She died on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She was a retired cook at Belfonte Public School and a member of Belfonte Baptist Church. She was a full-blood member of Cherokee Nation and First Speaker of the Cherokee language.
Survivors include one daughter, Rose Fowler of Huntsville, Ark.; son, Teddy and Carolyn Qualls of Nicut; two brothers, Stevie Coleman of Mineola, Texas and David Coleman of Hanson; one sister, Linda Bobbit of Roland; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil Qualls on May 23, 2011; two sons, Clyde and Cecil Jr. Qualls; and one grandson.
Pallbearers were Josh Brown, Glen Qualls Jr., Kodie Benge, Bryce Qualls, Cooper Qualls and Fisher Qualls.
