The Vian Board of Education addressed a range of important topics, including financial matters, updates on school facilities, and critical policy changes during their monthly meeting on Dec. 11.
The meeting began with routine items, and a roll call confirmed the presence of all board members.
Superintendent John Brockman provided updates on various matters, with a focus on the high school, the need for repairs at the Agricultural Show Barn, and developments at Armstrong Park.
The board proceeded to discuss and approve payroll, encumbrances and warrants for all funds. The approval included a net increase of $37,788.13 within the 202324 General Fund and a net increase of $2,415.00 within the 2023-24 Sinking Fund, receiving unanimous support from all board members present.
Several motions were made and unanimously approved during the regular business segment:
• Minutes for all special/ regular meetings from November 2023
• 2024 board meeting dates
• Amendment of the shortterm suspension appeal process in the high school handbook to align with Vian Public School’s school policy
• School Resource Officer’s ticketing for vapes
• Bus leases for three route buses with Holt Truck Center for the 2024-25 school year
• Title IIIV roles and duties.
The board also discussed items to be included in the next regular meeting agenda.
The board voted at 6:58 p.m. to convene an executive session under the authority of 25 Okla. Stat. §307(B)(1) to discuss employment matters, including personnel for the 2023-24 school year and the purchase and appraisal of real property. No action items resulted from the executive session.
No new business or action items were introduced during the meeting.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 9:18 p.m.
