In a meeting that touched on topics ranging from finances to cemetery fences, the Webbers Falls Board of Trustees on Jan. 9, were presented an update on a pending roof project and addressed concerns regarding fine amounts and fences.
The meeting kicked off by confirming the presence of all trustees and the unanimous approval of consent items, including bills and reoccurring bills for January, as well as minutes from the Dec. 12 and 19 meetings.
Mayor Johnny Pollard gave an update on the pending roof project, stating they are awaiting paperwork from the construction company. The trustees voted to accept a bid of $136,396 from Dishman Construction during a special meeting on Dec. 19 for the roof project on the buildings located at 105. E. Commercial St., which includes the Museum, Freedom Hall and the connecting storage building.
Police Chief Wayne Cartwright gave his monthly reports, while Fire and City Maintenance reported no significant developments. Code Enforcement also gave updates on the progress and cleanup of town properties.
A citizen, David Ward, raised concerns about high traffic fine amounts and a fence barrier placed on his land by ODOT. Chief Cartwright assured Ward that the fine issue was under investigation, and the fence matter fell outside the town’s jurisdiction.
Discussion on Ordinance 01-09-24-01, adopting the Joinder Agreement and Master Defined Contribution Plan Document, was tabled until the February meeting.
The fire department received approval to purchase a backup generator from Jimmy Jones Electric LLC, along with an updated gas meter, totaling $12,210.89.
After hearing concerns from resident Emily Ogg, the board decided not to replace the fence at Vaught Cemetery.
A discussion on the cost and options for handling the demolition of Garden Walk Apartments was inconclusive, with no action taken.
The trustees entered an executive session at 7:08 p.m. to discuss employment matters regarding Colby Everette and Selena Williams. Upon reconvening at 7:11 p.m., the trustees voted to hire Everette full-time with a pay raise to $13 per hour, effective Jan. 10. Additionally, the resignation of Williams was accepted with the meeting concluding at 7:13 p.m.
