Vian Police Chief Mark Harkins said a police officer assisted by two Town of Vian workers on Jan. 16 rescued a cat from freezing temperatures after it got away from its owner.
“Officer Turner was rescuing the proverbial “cat stuck in a tree” Norman Rockwell painting,” Chief Harkins said. “Town worker Jason Fieldgrove, who is also a volunteer Vian fireman, along with town worker Jimmy Ponticelli both left the warm comforts of their homes to assist Officer Turner.”
Harkins said he commends the two town workers for going above and beyond their job descriptions.
“This isn’t just about a cat that had never been outside before, much less in 2 degree weather with a minus 0 windchill,” he said. “This is about a pet parent who needed help, asked for it, and received it from a couple different departments within the town of Vian working as one team, to help their fellow citizens.”
“Great job to each of them for continuing to make Vian a great place to work and live!” he concluded.
