The Sequoyah County Fair Board prepared for frigid temperatures this winter season, as their plans for the second annual River Valley Pig Gig went underway. 4-H and FFA families from the surrounding areas sought out to see their hard work pay off at the Jan. 13 jackpot event. Showmanship winners and swine exhibitors were evaluated by Locust Grove Ag Educator, Ethan Propp.
Congratulations goes to three division showmanship winners: Bud Horsley from Council Hill – PeeWee division; Millie Foster from Paragould, Ark. – Junior division; and Acea Horsley from Council Hill – Senior division. Ten Breed Champions were chosen for one last gig in the showring. Another congratulations goes to local Sequoyah County showman, Chassity Smith of Vian, with her Grand Champion Dark Cross. Acea Horsley had the Reserve Grand Champion with her Berkshire hog.
Fair Board members include President Roger Stites, Vice President Dale Phelps, Secretary and Treasurer Max Tan Smith, and other members include Max Tan Smith Jr., Tommy Wright, Shawn Matthews, Kendall Thomason, Jim Pat O’Bryan and Lee Bennett.
Fair Board Members are greatly appreciative of the following sponsors for another successful event: Michael Morton (Platinum Sponsor), Ideal Storage Shed, Eastside Genetics, and Breakaway Investments.
