The Town of Vian’s Board of Trustees convened for its regular meeting on Jan. 16, where they approved a cybersecurity grant and the hiring of a new town employee, and accepted the resignation of a police officer.
The meeting, presided over by Mayor Dennis Fletcher, began with a revisit of two agenda items tabled from the December meeting.
The first matter was the purchase of an outdoor big screen device for special events, which was ultimately tabled for further consideration. The discussion regarding FEMA-4222-DR-OK, involving the Town of Vian’s Project Worksheet 805 and a request for repayment of funds, was deferred for additional review. The highlight of the evening was the unanimous approval of Resolution 2024001, signifying the town’s commitment to participating in the OMAG Cybersecurity Grant. This motion, proposed by Rick Peoples and seconded by Shane Kolbe, received positive votes from all present trustees, marking a significant step towards enhancing the town’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
The meeting proceeded with a unanimous decision to accept the resignation of Vian Police officer Lawrence Milligan. A motion made by Peoples and seconded by Fletcher sealed the approval, with all present trustees in agreement.
Police and fire reports were then presented and accepted without any notable concerns. The reports covered citations, budgetary considerations, fire runs, firefighter attendance, and water usage.
In another pivotal decision, the council approved the employment of Stone Girty. A motion initiated by Peoples and seconded by E.O. “Jr.” Smith resulted in unanimous approval. The meeting adjourned at 6:13 p.m. with the trustees going straight into the public works authority meeting next.
During the communications portion, it was noted that water shut-offs for non-payment were reportedly postponed until Jan. 22, with all other reports being approved by the trustees. The meeting adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
