Funeral services for Rex Bell Whatley, 90, of Sallisaw, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, at Church of Christ in Sallisaw.
Burial followed at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Whatley was born on Aug. 5, 1933, in Paw Paw Bottoms, to Berta Zella (Woodhull) Whatley and Grover C. Whatley. He died on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, in Fort Smith, Ark.
He was married to Joy Inez Lokey on Aug. 10, 1957, in Fort Smith, Ark. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2023.
He worked for the Sequoyah County Department of Human Services as a case worker where he later became supervisor, retiring in 1994 after 38 years. He served for over 38 years on the City of Sallisaw Planning Commission, served on the board for Cookson Hills Community Action, and was active in the Masonic Lodge where he served as Chaplain. He was also a veteran of the United States Army and active in the American Legion and DAV.
Survivors are two sons, Rex Blake Whatley of Stilwell and Bret Whatley of Sallisaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister, Billye Louise Center; and five brothers, Loyd E. Whatley, William J. Whatley, Wayne B. Whatley, Frank D. Whatley and G.C. Whatley.
