Several Vian high school and junior high wrestlers and Gore JH heavyweight Kaydin Mc-Cartney all placed in last weekend’s Maverick Conference Tournament, which took place Friday and Saturday at Poteau High School’s Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
In the high school girls’ division, Vian’s Avery Richey was the champion at 135 pounds, Vian’s Aubrey Gant (115 pounds) and Carissa Prock (125) were runners-up and Vian’s Carmen Rautenburg was fourth at 130.
In the high school boys’ division, Vian’s Gunner Richey was second at 138 pounds, while Lane Jameson was third at 190.
In the junior high division, three locals won titles. Vian’s Maddison Turman was the girls 117-pound champion, while Vian’s Charles Lucas took the gold in the boys 92-pound division. Gore’s Kaydin McCartney was the JH heavyweight champion to be the lone Pirates’ medalist.
Also in the junior high boys’ division for Vian, Kalvin Andrade (98 pounds), Carter Madsen (119) and Axl Branham (126) all placed third.
