It was a rough week of basketball for the Vian squads last week as they both went 0-3.
The week started by losing both games Feb. 6 at Spiro as the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Wolverines 68-31 and the ’Dogs downed the Wolverines 54-45.
The Vian teams then suffered home sweeps at B.J. Traw Gymnasium on Thursday night to Howe and Friday night to Keys. The Lady Lions downed the Lady Wolverines 78-30 and the Lions got past the Wolverines 58-54 on Thursday night, while the Lady Wolverines lost 47-34 to the Cougars and the Wolverines fell 73-33 to the Cougars on Friday night.
In the girls’ loss to Spiro, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-5 lead after a period and never looked back.
In defeat, Halli Russell and Avery Wright led the Lady Wolverines (2-18) with six points each, followed by Kiah Richardson with five points, Skyelar Locust and Rebel Simon each with four points, Maisie Wells with three points and Kala Gibbins, Annie Neal and Rayleigh Terrill with a free throw apiece.
In the boys’ loss to Spiro, the ’Dogs jumped out to a 14-9 lead after a quarter, which became a 31-19 advantage at halftime. The Wolverines (7-15) outscored the Bulldogs 26-23 in the second half but fell short.
In defeat, Yonsi Grass led Vian with a game-high 26 points, followed by Trace Sanders with six points, Jacob Brannick and Masyn Wright with four points each, Joe O’Neil with three points and Cash Collins with two points.
In the girls’ loss to Howe, the Lady Lions built as much as a 50-point lead in the waning moments of the final period.
In defeat, Wells and Wright led Vian with six points, followed by Gibbins with four points, Simon and Neal with three points each, Locust, Richardson and LaKaila Drew each with two points and Terrill and Kalli Kennedy with a free throw apiece.
In the boys’ loss to Vian, the Wolverines had a 45-40 with 1:48 left in the game after a putback by Grass, but the Lions ended the game with an 18-9 run to get the come-frombehind win. In defeat, Grass scored a game-high 31 points to lead Vian, followed by Brannick with seven points, Wright with six points, O’Neil and Sanders with four points each and Draighton Fletcher with two points.
In the girls’ loss to Keys, after the Lady Wolverines had a 15-10 halftime lead, the Lady Cougars outscored them 25-8 in the third quarter to take a 35-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
In defeat, Wells led Vian with 10 points, followed by Wright with nine points, Russell with five points, Locust with four points and Simon and Gibbins went three points apiece.
In the boys’ loss to Keys, the Cougars got out to a 22-10 lead after a period never relinquished their lead.
In defeat, O’Neil led Vian with 10 points, followed by Grass with nine points, Brannick with six points, Wright with five points and Sanders with three points.
