Funeral services for Patricia Gayle (Boyd) Owen were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 21, 2024, at Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren, Ark.
Private burial followed at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home. Mrs. Owen was born on Sept. 22, 1937, to Marcus and Juanita Boyd. She died on Feb. 16, 2024.
She was married to Dale Owen in June 1959. She was a homemaker, small business owner, florist, decorator and skilled musician. She played the piano and organ for her church, and was a gifted singer. She was proud of her Cherokee heritage and was a long time member of the Cherokee Baptist Choir. She was a lecturer on Cherokee History at schools and community clubs.
Survivors include her husband, Dale of Roland; children, Larry (Vivian) Owen of Van Buren, Dana (William) Cassaday of Harrison, Ark., Mark Owen of Sallisaw and Michelle (Nick) Roper of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra Boyd, Randy Boyd and Monty Boyd; and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Marcus Owen; brothers, Anthony Boyd and Ronnie Boyd; and son-in-law, Morris OQuin Jr.
Pallbearers were Grant Combs, Richard Combs, Rod Fuller, Samuel Harden, Quinton Hurlburt, Timothy Monroe, Jay Owen Mills and Roger Owen.
