Vian pitcher Riley Ellis threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Wolverines opened the season with a 10-0 four-inning win over the Hulbert Riders on Saturday afternoon at home.
Riley (1-0) got all the run support needed in the opening inning as Stryker Fields was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing Michael Polecat home from third base for a 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines put the game into run-rule status with a three-run second inning and a sixrun third inning for a 10-0 lead.
For the game, Ellis was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs batted in and a run scored, Cash Collins was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI and Lastyn Taylor hit a two-run triple.
