Gore softball team opens season 3-0

The Gore Lady Pirates softball team opened the 2024 slowpitch softball season 3-0 by winning all three home games on opening week.

The week ended by winning both games of a home threeway on Thursday, winning 9-4 over Webbers Falls and 8-2 over Cave Springs.

The week began with a 19-0 rout of Canadian on March 4.

In Thursday’s home win over Webbers Falls, the Lady Pirates broke a 4-all tie with a threerun third inning and a two-run fifth inning for a 9-4 lead after five innings.

For the game, Cheyenne Davidson was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Paige Curran was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, River Shoemake was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored and Keira Rowe was 2-for-3.

In Thursday’s home victory over Cave Springs, the Lady Pirates rallied from a 2-0 thirdinning deficit with a four-run third inning and a four-run fourth inning for an 8-2 lead after four innings.

For the game, Huckbay singled with two RBIs, while Paige Curran and Sophie O’Connor each singled with an RBI.

In the season opener against Canadian on March 4, the Lady Pirates put away the game with a 14-run first inning. A fiverun second inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Paige Curran was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, six runs batted in and two runs scored, Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs and a run scored, Victoria Scott was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Huckbay doubled with an RBI and three runs scored and Peyton Curran doubled with an RBI and a run scored.

Monday’s home game with Gans was canceled, but the Lady Pirates still were slated to meet Vian on Tuesday. Then, the Lady Pirates will welcome the Lady Warriors to town once more at 4:30 p.m. Thursday before taking Spring Break Week off.
