Webbers Falls Lady Warriors suffer through winless opening week
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

It was a rough beginning for the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors slow-pitch softball team as they lost all four games played during opening week last week.

The week ended with a pair of losses in a road three-way Thursday at Gore, losing 9-4 to the host Lady Pirates and falling 6-3 to the Cave Springs Lady Hornets.

The season started with a pair of losses in a March 4 road three-way at McCurtain, falling 17-1 to the host Lady Bulldogs and losing 14-0 to the Leflore Lady Savages.

In Thursday’s road loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates broke a 4-all tie with a three-run third inning and a two-run fifth inning for a 9-4 lead after five innings.

In defeat, Teralynn Colston was 2-for-3, Gracie Sturgell was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Bridgette Baer was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

There was no more information reported on the Cave Springs game by press time.

In the season-opening loss to McCurtain on March 4, the Lady Bulldogs put away the game early with a 12run first innings and a five-run second inning for a 17-0 lead.

The lone run for the Lady Warriors came on a bases-loaded walk to Sturgell, scoring Baer in the third inning.

In defeat, Teralynn Colston, Bentley Ward and Kendra Kimble each got a hit. Ward took the loss.

In the loss to Leflore on March 4 in McCurtain, Leflore pitcher Miriam Luce tossed a one-hitter, with that hit being a single by Laina Colston.

The Lady Savages scored three runs in the first inning, five runs in the second inning and six runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.

The Lady Warriors (0-4), who played a road game Tuesday at Okmulgee, will return for another road game with next-door neighbor Gore at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Gore.
