RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverine softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns got a Great American Conference home series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State College over the weekend at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
On Friday, the Golden Suns swept a doubleheader from the Lady Rangers by scores of 2-1 and 4-3, then completed the sweep with an 8-1 victory on Saturday.
The week didn’t start well for the Golden Suns as they lost a pair of home games March 12 to Harding University by scores of 6-4 and 2-0.
In Friday’s Game 1 win over NWOSU, Gibbins was hitless in two at-bats, while having a bases-loaded walk for a run batted in during the four-run seventh-inning rally for the come-frombehind victory.
In Saturday’s victory over NWOSU, Gibbins did not play, nor did she play in either Harding game for the Golden Suns (16-10 overall, 8-6 in GAC play).
Through 26 games, Gibbins is hitting .205 with three doubles, five runs batted in and a stolen base.
The Golden Suns will return to action in a three-game road GAC series against Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. There will be a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and the series finale at noon Saturday before the Golden Suns hit the road for a 2 p.m. Tuesday twinbill against Delta State in Cleveland, Miss.
