It was a rough week for the Gore Pirates as they went 1-3 last week, with the lone win an 8-0 victory over Keota on March 12 at home.
The Pirates opened the week with a 135, eight-inning loss to Tulsa Regent Prep on March 11 at home March 11, then they lost both of their games in the Dewar Baseball Festival — falling 6-2 to Allen on Friday and 11-0 to Barnsdall on Saturday.
In the win over Keota, Gore pitcher Tate Brooksher got his second straight win in as many starts as he threw a two-hitter and 13 strikeouts.
The Pirates (3-5) scored twice in the first inning, once in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.
For the game, Brooksher was 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while James Brasuel was 2-for-2 with a double, a solo homer and three runs scored for Gore.
In the loss to Tulsa Regent Prep, the visitors erupted for nine runs in the eighth inning to break a 4-all tie after the Pirates tied the game at 4 with a two-run sixth inning.
For the game, Hunter McGee was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Keiden Denton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Gore.
Brasuel (0-1) suffered the loss in relief, going three innings with five strikeouts, but allowing six of the nine eighthinning runs scored by Tulsa Regent Prep. Dayton Smith started the game, went the first 4.1 innings with a strikeout. Waylon Gilkey got the final two outs.
In the loss to Allen, the Mustangs scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. The Pirates cut the deficit to 5-2 in the third inning but got no closer.
In defeat, Brooksher was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Brasuel was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, McGee tripled and Gilkey tripled and scored once.
Smith (1-2) took the loss, lasting only 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Brasuel went the final 2.2 innings with four Ks.
In the loss to Barnsdall, Andrew Cole threw a complete fourinning game with seven strikeouts for the Panthers. The only blemish against Cole was a single by Rowe.
Brooksher (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going three innings, allowing 11 runs — but only five of them earned due to five Gore errors — and striking out two batters.
