Vian Wolverines baseball team 2-3 last week
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Wolverines baseball team went through a 2-3 week last week, with their two wins coming in Friday’s action at the Dewar Baseball Festival, beating Moss 12-6 and Allen 111. The Wolverines ended the week with an 8-6 loss to Wright City in the Dewar Baseball Festival.

The Wolverines started the week by losing a 10-0 to Prairie Grove, Ark., on March 11 at home, then losing a 10-0 road game to Oktaha on March 12.

In the win over Moss, the Wolverines (5-6) rallied from a 3-0 firstinning deficit with a three-run first inning and a four-run second inning for a 7-3 lead after two innings, a lead they would never relinquish.

For the game, Draighton Fletcher was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Michael Polecat was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and three runs scored and Lasytn Taylor was 2-for-2 with three RBI, two of which came on a two-run home run in the sixth inning that made the score 12-5.

Gabe Gilbert (1-2) got his first win of the season, striking out four batters in five innings. Fletcher went the final two innings with five Ks.

In the victory over Allen, it was another comefrom- behind victory for the Wolverines. Down 1-0 after two innings, Vian scored once in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning, once in the fifth inning and seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Polecat was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Kaden Fulbright hit a two-run homer and scored twice for Vian.

Riley Ellis (2-0) got the win, going all six innings with 12 strikeouts.

In the loss to Prairie Grove, the Wolverines were no-hit by the visiting pitcher, who fanned 11 Vian batters.

Kaden Fulbright (11) suffered his first loss of the season with two strikeouts.

In the loss to Oktaha, the Wolverines were two-hit by Oktaha pitching as all Vian could muster was a double by Polecat and a single by Stryker Fields.

The Tigers scored twice in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, once in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Taylor (0-2) took the loss, going 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Fletcher got the final out.

In the loss to Wright City, the Lumberjax scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead, but the Wolverines cut the deficit to 5-3 with a three-run sixth inning but got no closer. Wright City also scored three runs in the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead. Vian rallied in the seventh inning with three runs but came up short.

In defeat, Cash Collins was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and four RBIs, while Fletcher doubled and scored once.

Polecat (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going six innings and getting two strikeouts.
