Vian Lady Wolverines enjoy 4-1 week on the diamond

The Vian Lady Wolverines went 4-1 last week, including three wins over Muldrow.

The Lady Wolverines beat the Lady Bulldogs 11-9 and 13-12 as well as beating Sallisaw 10-0 before losing 16-6 to Pocola in the Stilwell Festival on April 1 as the second day of the event got canceled due to rain the night before. The Lady Wolverines ended the week with a road 8-6 victory over Muldrow on Thursday.

In the first win over Muldrow at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Wolverines (7-5) rallied with a pair of tworun innings in the fifth and sixth innings, then scored an insurance run in the seventh.

For the game, Eastern Oklahoma State College signee Maisie Wells was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored, Kala Gibbins was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Rayleigh Terrill was 3-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and three runs scored, Akeelah Truett was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored, Eden Girty was 2-for-2 with a run scored and Hanna Mattingly was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Vian. Terrill (7-5) got the win.

In the second victory over Muldrow at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Wolverines scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally for the victory.

For the game, Gibbins was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, Wells was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Girty was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Mattingly was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored, Terrill was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Kaidence Roark was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Scarlett Fields was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Halli Russell was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Tressa Sandlin was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Truett hit a solo homer for Vian. Terrill got the win.

In the win over Sallisaw at the Stilwell Festival, the Lady Wolverines broke open the game with a seven-run second inning. A threerun fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, Wells was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Girty was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Roark was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored and Truett and Mattingly each doubled and scored once for Vian. Terrill got the win.

In the loss to Pocola at the Stilwell Festival, after taking a 1-0 lead, the Lady Indians erupted for 13 runs in the second inning for a 14-0 lead.

In defeat, Mattingly was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for Vian. Terrill took the loss.

In Thursdays road win over Muldrow, the Lady Wolverines broke a 3-all tie with a five-run third inning for an 8-3 lead. A two-run third and a run in the seventh for Muldrow cut the deficit to 8-6, but the Lady Bulldogs got no closer.

For the game, Wells was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Drew was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Truett was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI and Girty was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for Vian. Terrill got the win.

The Lady Wolverines were slated to play Gore at home Monday and Webbers Falls at home on Tuesday before entertaining Central at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and joining Muldrow for a road three-way at Roland beginning at 4:30 p.m. Friday, with Vian playing the final two games of the night. Next week, the Lady Wolverines will meet Stilwell for a home 4:30 p.m. Monday game, followed by a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday home game against Eufaula.
