Losses to regional-host Oktaha, Henryetta ends softball season for Vian

The 2024 slow-pitch softball season came to an end for the Vian Lady Wolverines as they lost both games they played in Tuesday’s Class 4A Regional Tournament in Oktaha as they lost 17-4 in four innings to the regional-host Oktaha Lady Tigers and 15-5 in five innings to the Henryetta Lady Black Knights.

Vian, who lost their regional tune-up game at home to Whitesboro by the score of 19-17 in 11 innings, ends the season at 15-10.

In the loss to Oktaha, after the Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 5-4 after an inning, the Lady Tigers scored five runs in the second inning, twice in the third inning and five runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, LaKaila Drew doubled and scored once, Tressa Sandlin doubled, Akeelah Truett and Rayleigh Terrill each hit solo home runs in the first inning and Halli Russell hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Terrill (15-10) took the loss.

In the season-ending loss to Henryetta, after the Lady Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Drew’s one-out solo homer, the Lady Black Knights scored five runs in the bottom of the frame for a 5-1 lead after an inning. After Vian got the game tied at 5-all on Hanna Mattingly’s solo homer in the fifth inning, Henryetta put the game into run-rule status with a single run in the fourth inning and a nine-run fifth inning.

In defeat, Drew was 3-for-3 with a double, a solo homer and two runs scored, Mattingly was 2-for-2 with a solo homer, Eden Girty doubled and scored once and Russell hit a three-run homer. Terrill took the loss.

In the loss to Whitesboro, the Lady Wolverines tied the game at 17-all with a run in the seventh inning after the Lady Bulldogs had taken a 17-16 lead in the top of the frame. Whitesboro scored twice in the 11th inning for the win.

In defeat, Russell was 4-for-6 with a double, two home runs and five runs batted in, Truett was 4-for-6 with two homers and four RBIs, Drew was 3-for-6 with three runs scored, Terrill was 3-for-5 with two solo homers and three runs scored, Eastern Oklahoma State College signee Maisie Wells was 2-for-6 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored, Sandlin was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Mattingly hit a solo homer for Vian. Terrill took the loss.

All total in the Whitesboro-Vian game, Whitesboro had five homers and a double in the game, while Vian had eight homers and a double.
