Funeral services for Paul Dee Short, 76, of Oklahoma City, were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw. Burial followed at Box Cemetery in Vian, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Short was born on Jan. 21, 1948, in Granite City, Ill., to Clessie (Choate) Short and Grover Cleveland Short. He passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, in Oklahoma City.
Paul grew up in Blackgum. He graduated from Vian High School in 1966. He went on to receive his Bachelors Degree from Northeastern State College, and ultimately became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Paul moved to Oklahoma City in the early 70s where he worked as an auditor for the city. He later moved on to audit for several different oil and gas companies until he retired.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Paul was a member of the Sallisaw Grand Masonic Lodge and a member and volunteer of the OKC Gun Club. In his later years hunting Morel Mushrooms became his passion. He was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors are two daughters, Sondra Duncan and Randy, and Shelly Black and Chris; five grandchildren, Joshua Lane and Om, Chelcie Black, Shelbie Wynne and Jimmy, Ethan Lane, and Christopher Black; one great-grandson, Ian Lane; and one brother, Sam Short.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Clessie Short; one brother, Grover Jr.; and one son-in-law, Roy “Buckie” Lane.
Active pallbearers were Christopher Black, Ethan Lane, Joshua Lane, and Jimmy Wynne.
Viewing was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw.
